Rapper Lil Wayne hosted his annual Lil Weezyana Fest in New Orleans, LA, on November 2, 2024. The event brought fans a major surprise: the first performance by The Hot Boyz in 25 years. Lil Wayne reunited onstage with his original rap group, featuring Juvenile, B.G., Mannie Fresh, and Birdman. The group performed iconic hits like “Hot Girl,” “Project Chick,” “Bling Bling,” and “Back That Thang Up,” sparking nostalgia and excitement throughout the crowd.
Amid the ongoing Super Bowl controversy—where Kendrick Lamar was chosen for the halftime show over Lil Wayne—Master P and the Mayor of New Orleans honored Lil Wayne by presenting him with the Key to the City. Since it was announced that the Super Bowl would be held in New Orleans in 2025, Lil Wayne has been openly campaigning to perform at the event. Upon hearing that Kendrick Lamar was selected instead, Lil Wayne expressed feeling hurt and snubbed by the decision.
During his speech, Master P presented Wayne with the Key to the City and announced that Lil Wayne would be the first artist from New Orleans inducted into the NOLA Walk of Fame on February 6, 2025. Although he may not have secured the Super Bowl performance, Lil Wayne is undeniably receiving the recognition he deserves. Amazon Prime even live-streamed the festival, making it accessible to fans worldwide amid the Super Bowl debate.
